In the Green Hive Corp. building, a massive explosion releases genetically modified swarms of animals, plants, and all sorts of hybrid creatures from their controlled laboratory conditions.
The story of Project Tarnished Mare unfolds from multiple perspectives, revealing the events following the outbreak and uncovering the dark secrets hidden by Green Hive.
Green Hive is a concept as grand as it is mysterious.
Officially, it is a powerful corporation founded on a noble mission — to create a stable, self-sustaining ecosystem that can be easily and cheaply replicated in habitat hubs on colonized planets, allowing them to be populated rapidly in small, contained zones known as Domes.
The main challenge was to design an ecosystem with exceptional stability — one where the life cycles of flora and fauna were prolonged and resistant to diseases caused by a small, closed system, where even the slightest weakness could destroy the entire green zone in moments.
The research progressed remarkably well. Among the many achievements of this “artificial accelerated evolution” were:
In the conditions of accelerated genetic growth, scientists could observe mutations in real-time and directly intervene in every minute genetic shift — selectively removing unwanted changes.
Naturally, this attracted greedy insects to the Hive.
While the upper laboratories, gardens, and terrariums pursued their noble ecological goals and inspired hope for a better future, the true direction of the research conducted deep underground was... somewhat different.
Green Hive’s CEO, Thomas Beerenhausen, was an exceptionally sharp man — fully aware of the potential behind his company’s experiments.
He knew perfectly well that it was only a matter of time before the military would appear, demanding to relocate the project underground and weaponize its findings.
It didn’t bother him; he understood the power and protection such collaboration granted.
Refusal meant certain death. Compliance meant immunity.
And so, prototypes were shipped through an underground cargo line to a classified military facility, where the army conducted endurance and tactical tests using this new form of biological weaponry.
In return, vast sums of money flowed into both Green Hive’s accounts and Beerenhausen’s personal pocket.
The story begins at the moment of the explosion, the catastrophic event that triggers the escape of the organisms developed within Green Hive.
It is later confirmed that a strike team from an unknown organization infiltrated the facility during the incident.
The narrative is led by an investigator from the Military Counterintelligence Service, who serves as the lead officer in charge of the case.
Through his review of classified documents and the testimonies of captured witnesses, he reconstructs the events that took place.
Project Tarnished Mare tells the story through the testimonies of three witnesses, each of whom was inside the Green Hive complex at the time of the disaster.
A story told through the eyes of an ordinary security guard, who happened to be on his shift, patrolling the complex lobby.
At the moment of the explosion, the building lost power, and the backup generators failed to start.

The story of one of the engineers working in the upper laboratories. His knowledge is limited, though not without suspicion — after all, he’s seen what happens in the Gardens and Terrariums, and some research requests seemed far from the officially declared goals.

The Special Operative (SO) is the one who triggered the explosion and the entire chaos.
The diversion was planned to allow infiltration of the building, securing classified documents and research subjects from the underground labs, and extraction via the rooftop landing pad, where a helicopter awaits.
